Sooo I've been tattooing for just over a year now. I feel like my progress is slow, but no one else agrees. I have my own little apartment, Al and I just celebrated our first anniversary and all my friends are bikers. I've carved a nice, content little life for myself where I am in control of my own destiny. I couldn't ask for better friends, our studio is like a little family. I consider myself to be lucky and happy.
I've taken down most of my gallery - I've had my artwork reused, reworked and outright stolen on too many occasions. That never used to bother me too much in the past, but it does now because I have a reputation to build as a tattooist and I don't need to give others a free ride along the way.
I'll only upload a small amount of tattoo related work from now on. I probably won't be taking on any commissions either. Not only because I generally have time, but there's a really good reason you shouldn't have a separate artist design your tattoo. I'm frustrated with the amount of people who approach me to design a tattoo for them, here's a list of reasons for why you shouldn't ask me or anyone else outside of a tattoo studio:
-Your tattooist should design it. If they design it, they will have knowledge of the design inside and out and it will be in a style they understand and are familiar with. If your tattooist won't draw up what you want, find a tattooist that will. If they tell you your idea won't work as a tattoo, it won't, so give up.
- Paying a commission artist will only cost you extra money. If that artist isn't an experienced tattoo artist, how on earth can you expect them to understand the process of tattooing and what's possible? If you need something custom, your tattooist will draw it up at no extra cost, you'll only pay for the tattoo. Why would you pay extra for someone else to get involved? That's stupid.
- Large scale tattoos are tailored to fit your body. Someone from the internet can't make something fit you. Go see a tattooist.
- Commissioning tattoo designs from DA is stupid, don't bother. Just find the right tattoo artist and let them do their thing: They tattoo and draw every day, so they're kinda good at that sort of thing.

So I decided to check DA after a few years...
Hello!
I really ought to keep this account updated. I will try to come and visit more often.
So I guess there's no one left who remembers me here, so I may as well reintroduce myself:
I am Kat, I'm a tattooist. I'm coming into my fifth year of tattooing. I'm always trying to get better. I have a background in design for print and games development. I play a lot of videogames. I have an unhealthy obsession with FFXV which sorta revolves around Ignis. I draw stuff and put it on Redbubble. Feel free to make requests for Rebbubble merch, no promises though. I also use instagram (katbentleytattoo) and I'm on Facebook, if you'd like to stay in t
Three Year Itch

Yeah ok, I got the three year itch. I recently switched studios. I work at a different tattoo studio now. It kinda rocks. I have a lot to learn!
Also, I have half a backpiece now. Don't get your bum crack tattooed kids, because crack is whack.
Just felt like saying
Hey!
You know, because years ago, I had about two or three Daily Deviations and some very supportive and loyal followers on Deviantart. You deserve to be kept up to date on what's going on... but I do wonder if there are any of you out there that still remember me from way back.
I wandered into a humble little biker tattoo studio of the streets armed only with a sketchpad almost three years ago and haven't had much time to look back since. Ok, I'm hardly in some pretentious, arty farty tattoo shop, rubbing shoulders with the greats and working conventions, but I'm happy where I am with my salt-of-the earth biker-slash-tattoo family.
So wha
I'm not dead!
Hey everyone!
Just wanted y'all to know that I'm not dead, just really, really busy. Here's my FaceBook page if you're interested: https://www.facebook.com/KatVanGent Note me or leave a comment if you want to add me as a friend, I update there much more often than here on DA.
I has an apprenticeship! Epic story actually... I walked into one tattoo shop armed with only a scruffy ol' sketchbook and my wits (no portfolio) and was offered an apprenticeship on the spot. I've made lots of new friends and done more in the last month than I have in the last three years. I'm definitely making up for lost time by working 50-60 hour weeks, seven days

I definitely hear you on the whole feeling like your progress is slow. I feel the same way! Everyone progresses at different rates, and we're going to always expect ourselves to be better and do the things we're able to draw etc. I've been drawing all my life, so it's natural to me. Tattooing is becoming a second nature to me, but it still is an adjustment. Keep up the awesome work, and keep on slingin'!
